God’s desire is SET in our hearts

2 Corinthians 4:6 King James Version (KJV) – Week 15 of 52

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

From the beginning, God’s desire has been for man to express His nature from his/her heart, no matter the domain (business, sports, government, education, clergy, etc.)

While college prepares you to be a practitioner, a skilled craftsman, God desire is for us to walk in “integrity of heart, and skillfulness of hand” – Psalms 78:72

We may get a job with impressive skills, but it’s our leadership Character that will provide sustainability. That leadership character is in our heart.

My encouragement to you today is to not be defined by success. You are bigger than success. Even in the midst of “failure” God’s character is being chiseled into you.

SET my path for the day – Week 13 of 52

“Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early; for when Your judgments are within the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.” – Isaiah 26:9

I used to think that setting my day, ordering my steps, was just for my benefit.

After all, the songwriter did say, “Order my steps in your Word, there Lord. Lead me, guide me, every day….. send your anointing Father I pray, please order my steps in your Word.”

Before I go any further, I just want to clarify that I am not “knocking” this song. What I am sharing is this song shares a part of the truth. The other part is that, as the Father order our steps, brings judgement within our earthen vessels, the inhabitants of the world will see, believe, and learn righteousness.

It’s a ripple effect strategy.

This has forever removed any anxiety I may sense prior to giving a speech (whether to 1 or to 10,000.)  Before I was concerned about how the delivery of my message will land. Now I am thankful for the landing of God’s revelation within my “earth,” being confident that He who begun that work in me is able to complete it  among those that are in the world.

Do | Understand | Know – Week 3 of 52

One of my all time favorite text from the bible is:

John 8:31:32

“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

To know is to become one with……

My prayer is that we Do | Understand| and Know (become one with Truth) in the spheres we are called to influence.

Don’t start with the problem, start with the people – Week 2 of 52

In the fall of 1982, James Burke, the chairman of Johnson & Johnson, faced the biggest crisis of his career. J&J learned from a reporter that their flagship product, Tylenol, had been linked to seven poisoning deaths in the Chicago area.

No one knew how or why the capsules had been poisoned, and Burke didn’t know how widespread the danger to the public might be.

What would you do?

The Bible suggests we should start the decision-making process by considering the potential consequences of our actions.

Colossians 3:2 King James Version (KJV)

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

Point of View: POV

  • What actions could Burke take to save his company from potential curses?
  • How could he bless consumers and the Tylenol brand for the future?

Burke quickly considered the consequences of several strategies, with a focus on keeping customers safe. Though it cost Johnson & Johnson $100 million in the short term, Burke convinced J&J shareholders to recall all Tylenol.

The phrase, “set your affection” means:

  • Consider
  • Think about
  • Be mindful of
  • Regard

As Burke considered the series of options in his decision making, he sat his affection on things above (people)…..not on things beneath (profit + problems).

What about you:

  • What Problems are you facing?
  • In the midst of the “problem(s)” where is your focus?

“Throughout the year we will continue to use the word, “SET” as our GPS.”

Set apart to rule and be ruled – Week 1 of 52

Genesis 1:16-18

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

Point Of View (POV):

The very first time the word “Set” was used in God’s word was Genesis 1:17

Two lights on the same team, both with a common objective( to rule), but without a director dictating and navigating their every move. I was blown away when I looked up the meaning of “Set” the first time it’s  mentioned in God’s Word. It means:

  • Bestowed
  • Be entrusted to
  • Be assigned
  • To be put upon (as in a burden)
  • To Ascribe
  • To Charge
  • To Commit to
  • etc

There are no grey areas. Each light is both charged to rule, to be self governing, and to flow harmoniously. It sure seems as though, from the beginning of time, Orpheus was the intended operational model for humankind.

What are your thoughts? How do you see this playing out in your respective domain(s)?
